Joel Nathaniel Moody

August 4, 1979 — May 30, 2020

Our incredible father, husband, son, brother, and friend, Joel Nathaniel Moody, left this world much too soon on May 30, 2020.

Joel was born Aug. 4, 1979, to Gary Nathaniel Moody and RaeLynn Moody White in Richfield, Utah. He came home to his older sisters, Michelle and Jennifer, and was later joined by younger sister, Lyndsey, and brother, Matt.

Joel was lucky enough to spend his childhood living next door to Grandma and Grandpa Poulson. At 13, he became his grandma’s caretaker after his grandpa passed away, a pattern he would repeat many times throughout his life.

Joel got a job at McDonald’s at 14 where he met his sweetheart, Kerry Greenhalgh. They dated throughout high school and were married Aug. 15, 1998.

Joel and Kerry lived in Cache Valley, then Washington, Utah, where they built their life together. They have two amazing sons, Logan Nathaniel and Carson Joel “CJ.”

Joel made his living in construction, working first for family than for himself, and eventually as a superintendent for AJ Construction. Joel took much pride in every job he worked on always going above and beyond with his meticulous perfection that only he could do. He was so intelligent that no job was ever unconquerable. Every employee, contractor, and client were instant friends that quickly became family.

Joel also enjoyed serving his community as a member of the Lions Club and Elks.

While he loved his job and service, nothing came before his family and friends who were like family. He was often found caring for his dad, helping his sisters out in any way they needed, or fixing something for his two moms. Joel had a way of making everyone feel like they were his favorite person, and many have mentioned they wouldn’t be where they are today without him.

Joel was an amazing father and husband. He loved nothing more than playing ball with his boys, cheering them on at their games, and mostly spending time on the mountain where he so loved hunting, fishing, riding, and shooting. Joel’s sons were his pride and joy and he was the perfect role model and example to them.

Joel and Kerry could often be found cheering for the Denver Broncos, for Dale Jr., for the Pine View Panthers, or their favorite singers and bands at various concerts. Their love was, without a doubt, a “once in a lifetime” kind of love.

He was a best friend, a role model, a “Superman” to his boys and many other good men. His heart was as big as his stature, and his wit was even bigger than that. He was also unbeatable at “Name That Tune,” although Logan did get him a few times.

Joel will be missed forever and has left an incredible legacy for all who had the honor of knowing him and the world would be a better place if we were all a little more like Joel.

Joel will be missed by his wife, Kerry; two sons: Logan and CJ.; mother, RaeLynn Moody (Tom, deceased) White; father, Gary Nathaniel Moody; mother-in-law, Jan (Doug, deceased) Magleby; father-in-law, Ron (Sher) Greenhalgh; siblings: Michelle (Scott) Mitchell, Jennifer Bailey, Lyndsey (Kai) Neilson, Matthew Moody, Eric (Rachelle) Greenhalgh, Emily (Robert) Nelson, Nicki (Zack) Jensen, Tom (Dena) White Jr., Trish (Tom) Langford and Kim (Travis) Ricks; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by grandparents.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, June 4, 2020, from 6-8 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah.

Private family services will be held Friday, June 5, 2020, at Metcalf Mortuary. Interment will be in the Washington City Cemetery.

March 23, 1950 — May 29, 2020

Our cherished, loving mother, grandmother, and wife Janet Tullis Creamer Steimle returned to our Heavenly Father on May 29, 2020, doing what she loved most, serving others. She passed away of natural causes in Gunlock, Utah.

Janet was born March 23, 1950, along with her twin sister Madeline, to David Anthon and Mary Leavitt Tullis in Cedar City, Utah. She grew up in Newcastle, Utah where she had many happy childhood memories in spite of many trials.

Janet was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed serving as Relief Society president, Primary president and teacher, scout leader, Young Women leader, and a diligent ministering sister. Janet graduated from Cedar High School. After high school, she had fond memories of working at the soda fountain at Cedar Breaks and Zion National Park during the summers. She received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education at the College of Southern Utah (SUU). While attending college, she met and married R Steve Creamer in the Manti Utah Temple. Together they spent time in Logan and Centerville before making St. George their home. They had four children together, Ryan, Tyson, Crystal, and Angela. They later divorced.

She married Ronald Steimle in St. George, Utah on Jan. 16, 2010.

Janet was small in stature but had a giant spirit. She truly was a disciple of Christ. Janet would often be found in the service of others, whether it be bringing a meal, giving a ride, lending a movie or costume or just doing anything that was needed. She made everyone feel welcome in her home. Much of her life she worked as a caregiver for friends, family, neighbors, and strangers. She focused her life in the service of others. She was often the first call for many in trouble times. It was never an inconvenience to drop anything to help another.

Janet was extremely creative. She could be found sewing, quilting, crafting and scrapbooking. She loved sharing her talents and interests with others.

Janet also loved serving in the temple. She served in the Temple at the Family File desk for almost 20 years. Her love of family and family history always led her to the Temple.

Janet loved her family most of all. Her children, and especially grandchildren were her greatest joy. She loved hosting family dinners and spending time building crafts with her grandkids. She was a wonderful cook and happily shared her talent at many family dinners. We will miss the warmth that she brought to family dinners.

Throughout her life, she rarely found an obstacle she could not overcome. Always the optimist in the most difficult of times. The phrase nothing ventured, nothing gained became a family moto. Her personality was infectious and made others around her feel like they could conquer the world.

She will be missed by all those she has touched throughout her life.

She is survived by her husband, Ron Steimle; her children: Ryan (Diane) Creamer, Tyson (Danielle) Creamer, Crystal (Ernie) Burt, and Angie (Niels) Melville; 12 grandchildren and 35 step-grandchildren; eight step-children and spouses; and sisters: Madeline Bragdon, Joan Morgan, and Bonnie Johnson.

Phyllis Gwendolyn Elizondo Swift –‘The Deal’

March 20, 1951 — May 27, 2020

“Marcus and Paul, you are a deal.” Those that know Phyllis have heard this phrase fall effortlessly from her lips in all different variations. Inevitably, someone always asks, “What is a deal?” With a side smile and a giggle, there was never an explanation.

Dr. Phyllis Gwendolyn Elizondo Swift, age 69, died suddenly on May 27, 2020. She was born on March 20, 1951, in La Oroya, Peru to Peggy and Joseph Elizondo. Her father, who graduated from Berkeley, was a geologist and mining engineer who managed mines ensuring safety for the employees, the environment, and increased effectiveness of the mine itself. Her mother, who graduated from Oregon State University, was a teacher and homemaker caring for their children: Brian, Phyllis, and Susan. Education was a value in the Elizondo household and her parents were her greatest role models. Like them, Phyllis passionately pursued a life dedicated to the service of others in her future work and home life.

Phyllis completed her Bachelor of Science in nursing in 1974 at the University of Colorado. While working as a nurse, she began her family with Frank Caldwell on May 26, 1973, and became a mother with her sons Marcus Caldwell and Paul Caldwell. She received her Master of Science in nursing in 1982 at the University of Missouri Columbia. Phyllis practiced nursing at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Hannibal, Missouri from 1975 to the summer of 1988 and was the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) during the final five years.

She married Ed Swift on July 27, 1988, in Santa Maria, California; she welcomed his children Stephanie, Jeff, and Ryan into her growing family. While in Santa Maria, Phyllis served the local community as an ER nurse at Marion Medical Center. In the mid-90s, Phyllis pivoted to nursing education at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. Phyllis, never one to settle for being an “okay” nurse, kept achieving more skills to increase her nursing abilities. She completed her education as a Nurse Practitioner at Marshall University, West Virginia in 1999, and in one of her most proud achievements, she received her Doctor of Nursing Practice at George Wa(r)shington University, DC in 2010.

Most recently, she served as a Professor of Nursing at Dixie State University and as a family nurse practitioner for the Intermountain Healthcare system. Here she gave back to the students what teachers had given to her throughout her illustrative nursing career. Her time as a nurse shaped who she was as a wife, mother, and teacher — a giver of small acts of grace, born from great knowledge, skill, wisdom.

Phyllis, a devout Catholic, lived her life according to the words of Mother Teresa, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” She was not interested in the publicness of her acts, but in the authenticity of each small moment she shared with a patient, student, and her children and grandchildren. And what we came to realize, in memorializing her life, is that she was always “the deal.” Funny, playful, serious, intelligent, beautiful, kind, compassionate, devout, loyal, loving, and fiery — she was everything one could ask for in a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, teacher, and nurse — she is, and always will be, “the deal.”

The family wishes you memorialize Phyllis by making donations to Dixie State University’s new Nursing Department, Dr. Phyllis Swift Scholarship, in one of the following ways:

June 6, 2020 — July 16, 1959

Becky gracefully battled with breast cancer, but, on Saturday morning, June 6, 2020, she peacefully passed away surrounded by those she loved.

She was born July 16, 1959, to the wonderful parents of Garry C. and Gwen (Kern) Prisbrey in Las Vegas, Nevada. She married Kevin F. Whitney on July 8, 1978 and they have had an endearing marriage for 42 years.

Her daughter, Kristy (Whitney) Leany, is married to Andrew P. Leany and they have two children, Katelyn and Colten Leany that she cherished her time with. She is survived by her father, Garry C. Prisbrey and her brothers and sisters: Brian and Sarah Prisbrey, Bruce and Annette Prisbrey and Chris and Brenda Viet.  Becky was very close to her brothers and sister in laws Tony and Trudee Whitney, Brent and Lisa Whitney, and Larry and Alice Williams. As well as her mother and father in law Zelda and Larry Stott and John Whitney. She has many nieces and nephews she is proud of.

Becky was full of passion and had a strong love of life. She was an outdoor enthusiast and she loved the beauty of her surroundings. She had strong passions and talent in music and art. She loved to play the piano, sew, and read. She is well known for her artist talents in oil, pastel and watercolor. Her greatest joy was teaching these talents to people with the same interests. She started her career in business and finance and succeeded well at it, becoming one of a few women to pass the series seven tests in financial licensing.  She left finance to open her own store: A Passion for Painting, where she encountered many friends and taught many her lifelong passion.

She was very talented, but would always say, “Talent isn’t something you are just born with, it is a passion you work for. Pursue your passion and continue working to perfect your talents.” Becky has a long list of honors, accomplishments, and recognitions within the art society, but she is most proud to contribute alongside her best students, friends and fellow teachers. She loved to teach and did so until her last breath.

She had a second home and store in Panguitch, Utah where she loved to hike, explore, and live every moment to the fullest. She would always be busy, and we had a hard time keeping up with her, even while she was taking chemotherapy treatments. She loved to share her love of quilting and sewing at this store. The balloon and quilt festival in Panguitch were events she looked forward to every year.

Of all the things Becky accomplished and learned throughout her life, her greatest joy was family and friends. She loved her grandkids, nieces and nephews very much. Becky was a loving wife, sister, aunt, mother and grandmother and she loved you all very much. She was always sewing or making something for everyone, she encouraged everyone around her to always be working toward a goal and she loved teaching her grandkids the importance of following their own passions in life.

On behalf of Becky and her family, we would like to thank the Cancer Center, her team of physicians, nurses and infusion services. We would like to thank the Sun Tree home health and hospice team.

We will have a viewing for family and friends on Thursday, June 11 from 6-8 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary. March 31, 1963 — June 5, 2020

Douglas Grant Clove, 57, passed away due to cancer on Friday, June 5, 2020, at his home in Enterprise, Utah, surrounded by his family.

Doug was born March 31, 1963, in San Francisco, California to Leonard Grant and Harvene Coe Clove, the second of seven children, with three brothers and three sisters. Doug grew up in Nevada City, California and graduated a year early from Nevada Union High School. After serving as a missionary in Japan, Doug graduated from Brigham Young University – Provo.

As far back as his teenage years, Doug admired and was drawn to Jackie Denise Prescott. Even though life kept them long-distance much of their dating years, they still felt connected and wrote dozens of letters to each other. He married the love of his life, Jackie, on Dec. 28, 1984, in the Oakland California Temple. Together they happily raised two children in Enterprise, Utah: Michael (Wilma) Clove and Melissa (Abram) Clay.

The virtue of hard work was instilled in Doug at a very young age, a virtue that defined him and his actions daily. He was a successful entrepreneur, even in economically trying times, owning Clove’s General Store and Clove’s Grocery Store in Enterprise, followed by the Clover Patch Quilt Shop in Santa Clara, Utah. He was an unwaveringly principled man and always stood up for what he believed, even in the face of unpopular opinion. But below the stoic surface was a man of deep care and tenderness.

Doug felt both responsible and rewarded in building up his community and enriching its citizens. He contributed in many ways over the years, from serving on the Enterprise City Council and as the city Mayor, to being a driving force behind many community events and causes, to simply donating his time at the Senior Citizen Center or at the school helping young students learn to read and count.

Hiking and experiencing the beauty of the outdoors always brought him peace and were his favorite hobbies. His truest joy came from family and being with his three treasured granddaughters: Alivia and Adalyn Clay, and Kara Allison Cera Clove.

He is survived by his parents, wife, children and grandchildren, as well as his siblings: Brent (Kathleen) Clove, Laura (Rick) Preece, Wendell (Kirsten) Clove, Alma (Polly) Clove, Malinda (Dain) Brinkerhoff, and Susan (Brandon) Durrett.

A graveside service for close family will be held Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at 10 a.m. in Enterprise, Utah.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Douglas Clove Donation account at Zions Bank or GoFundMe.com to be used to promote education in the community.

December 12, 1935 — June 8, 2020

AnnaLou Smith Hutchings Robertson, 84, passed away on June 8, 2020, in St. George, Utah.

AnnaLou was born Dec. 12, 1935, in Santaquin, Utah, to William Clifford Smith and Olive Ethel Taft Smith who were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  She is the 7th of 9 children born to this hard-working, honest, responsible and practical couple.

AnnaLou married Carlos Garth Hutchings Jan. 3, 1953, in Santaquin, Utah. Soon after the marriage, they moved to northern California, where all four of their children were born. In 1970, Carl and AnnaLou decided to move back home and settled in Loa, Utah where they purchased Loa Builders Supply.

Though she had always loved being a homemaker, AnnaLou knew she had more to offer, and she stepped bravely into the working world at Loa Elementary in the lunchroom. She advanced into the special education department, where she developed a deep love and concern for the students.  Because of her great capacity for caring, her intelligence and aptitude, she was encouraged to earn her bachelor’s degree/teaching certificate, which she did at SUSC (now SUU) in the mid-1990s. She enjoyed teaching, and her students loved her cheery attitude and fun spirit. The concept of stick-to-itiveness could have come about based on AnnaLou’s firm resolve to follow the course, despite twists and turns. But it fails to describe her cheery attitude while doing so!

AnnaLou loved to cook, tend her garden, was an avid singer, and always made time for her grandchildren. She taught us all by example to love life, be curious, and look on the bright side of things. She and Carl were divorced in 1997. He passed away in May 2013 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

AnnaLou met Russ Robertson in St. George, Utah. They were married July 11, 1998, and have resided in the area since then. Because of Russ’s love of outdoor activities, AnnaLou began participating in local hikes, biking and many other adventures. They traveled together extensively and served an 18-month mission to Ireland for their beloved LDS church in August of 2011. They maintained their healthy lifestyle until her health prevented it, just one short month ago.

The focus of AnnaLou’s life has always been her family and home. She lived life on her own terms, as a strong, stoic woman, and died the same way. She had bravely and optimistically dealt with vascular dementia for 11 years and passed away peacefully due to complications from colon cancer.

AnnaLou is survived by husband: Russell Clark Robertson; children: Virginia Hutchings; Curtis Lake (Cheryl) Hutchings; and Mathew Birgus (Stacey) Hutchings. Thirteen grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. AnnaLou also loved, and enjoyed, Russ’s children: Mark (Theresa) Robertson; Gaile (Kevin) Halladay; Meg (Mark, deceased) Shepherd; Claire (Jeff) Chance; Amy (Kent) Dayton, as well as his 21 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. Siblings: Leo Clifford (Bonnie) Smith; Jaye Brigham (Marguerite) Smith; and Diane Olive (Gene) Cales.

She is preceded in death by her firstborn son, Steven C (Zahandra) Hutchings, 2015; siblings: Nadine (baby), 1934; Afton Taft Smith, 2005; Geneve Taft Cornell, 2010; Lasca Taft Smith Keele, 2014; Audra Taft Smith Hendrickson, 2019.

The family is very grateful for the warm and loving assistance of Amy Moak, who provided excellent personal care to both Mom and Russ for the last two and a half years. They would also like to thank Amy and Paula at Encompass Hospice for their professional, high quality, and kind care during the last two weeks of AnnaLou’s amazing life.

We love and miss you, Mom and Grandma

Viewings will be held at the mortuary from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday and 8:30-9:30 a.m. on Thursday. The funeral will be held Thursday, June 11 at 10 a.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Joseph Brent Holm

January 5, 1959 — June 8, 2020

Joseph Brent Holm, age 61, passed away June 8, 2020. Brent was born Jan. 5, 1959, in Hildale, Utah to Carl and Louise Jessop Holm. He married Kristie Saxton May 20, 1978.

From an early age, Brent was very independent. At the age of 16, he went to live and work for his brother Ken, in Salt Lake City, as a diesel mechanic. He was very mechanically inclined. He was known for tinkering, improving and fixing anything. When friends would ask how he fixed things he would smile and say, “a little FM.”

Brent was a kind soul. He was always interested in how you were doing and gave hugs freely. That being said, he was the first to stick up for someone and defend their honor. The word “stranger” had no place in Brent’s life; everyone he met was family.

Family was the most important thing in Brent’s life. He met his sweetheart Kristie at the age of 16, and she accompanied him to Salt Lake City when he moved there. Together they raised a beautiful family of five children. Brent was a great papa and loved his grandchildren. Brent and his family enjoyed camping, four-wheeling, jeeping, boating and anything else the outdoors had to offer. With any group outing, Brent was always bringing up the rear making sure no one was left behind.

Brent loved to have a good time and could be the life of the party. He also had a peaceful, reverent side, reminding us to “keep sweet.” He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Brent is survived by his mother, Louise, Cedar City, Utah; wife, Kristie Holm, St. George, Utah; children, B.J. (Cameo) Holm, St. George, Utah; Mindy (Brock) Spilsbury, Hurricane, Utah; Lance (Cadie) Holm, Washington, Utah; Bristi (Matt) Spendlove, Washington, Utah; and Colton Holm, Apple Valley, Utah. Brent is also survived by 15 grandchildren, numerous brothers and sisters, extended family and friends.
