LewisJudy Older cropped(April 3, 1944 – July 14, 2015)

Judy Starr Daniels Lewis peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father on July 14, 2015, after a brief battle with kidney cancer. She was surrounded by her family.

She was born on April 3, 1944, to James Sawyer and Virginia Kay Daniels in Niles, California. She grew up in Seaside, California, attending UC-Berkeley and later earning her registered nurse licensure through Highland Nursing College in 1967.

Working as a nurse at Los Gatos Community Hospital she met many interesting people, including the love of her life, Steve Lewis. After a brief courtship they were married on September 18, 1971, and sealed for time and all eternity in the Oakland California LDS Temple on July 11, 1974.

Together they welcomed eight children into their lives, and she was mother to 10. The family moved to St. George, Utah, in 1987 and Judy went to work for Dixie Regional Medical Center in 1988, serving many residents, neighbors and friends for over 21 years.

Judy said her favorite part of nursing was caring for patients at the bedside and mentoring new nurses. Many will remember her steady hand, her white uniform, sense of humor, and level-headed influence. She was kind and positive about everyone and everything, and known to nurture people, plants and animals of all kinds with great success. She was wise and practical and had several favorite sayings.

Judy joined the LDS Church at 27 years old and remained a strong Latter-day Saint her entire life, striving to exemplify her Savior in all her interactions. Conversations with her often turned to eternal principles and perspective, demonstrating her enduring testimony of the plan of salvation.

Judy graduating from nursing school August 1967Judy was an avid genealogist, finding many generations of family to link together in the saving ordinances of the gospel.  When not doing genealogy or working on a yard or home project, she would most often be found studying the scriptures.  She had a lifelong love of gospel learning and was a favorite teacher of many.  Even in her final days, her testimony shone as bright as it ever did and she continued to radiate a love and sure knowledge of her Savior and His plan for her.

Judy is preceded in death by her parents and infant daughter, Nellee Danielle Lewis.  She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 44 years, Steve K. Lewis; step-sons: Mark Lewis and Ray Lewis; children: Mollee (David) Lamb, Jamie (William) Holt, Mitzi (Mike) Hall, Dow (Hannah) Lewis, Quincy (Kristy) Lewis, Darby (Aaron) Meadows, and Riley (Melissa) Lewis; her two brothers: Jim (Connie) Daniels and Jeff Daniels; and uncle, Paul (Marilyn) Hart.

JohnsonMargaret (1)(May 7, 1919 – July 24, 2015)

Margaret Tippetts Johnson, 96, left this life with dignity on July 24, 2015, with fireworks bursting in the night sky. She so loved this mortal life even though she suffered from the effects of polio at age eight.

She spent the next few years traveling the country supporting her husband on the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey Team. After their two oldest sons were born, they settled down in Southern Utah. Hurricane has been home for the past 66 years.

She was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many callings. Of those, working in the Temple as an ordinance worker and patron were completely fulfilling.

StrattonLelila Younger(April 4, 1922 – July 28, 2015)

Leila May Huntsman Mayhew Stratton, age 93, returned home to her Father in heaven and waiting family members, on July 28, 2015, of natural causes. She was surrounded by her loving family. Leila was born April 4, 1922, in Moapa, Nevada, to Solon Ralph Huntsman and Jetta Mariah Leavitt. She was the second child in a family of six children.

Leila’s first marriage was to Howard White Mayhew on August 27, 1940, in the St. George LDS Temple. They made their first home in Baldwin Park, California, where Howard was employed in a large Market Basket grocery store. They were happy in their home and work for a time, then World War II came along. Howard served in the Air Force as a radio man for the duration of the war. After his discharge they came home to St. George, Utah, and built the store on the corner of 300 South and 200 East, known as The Market Basket. They were hard workers and made a success of the store. Life was good and they were happy. Together they adopted a son, Milton Otto Mayhew. Within a short time Howard became ill with kidney troubles and was rushed to the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City, where he died of kidney failure on December 4, 1948. Leila was left alone with her little boy, the store, much heartache and many worries. She decided to sell the store and stay at home to raiser her son.

Later, Boots Cox set her up on a blind date with Albert M. Stratton, who also had recently lost his wife, Alma, in a car accident. He had a son, Steven Albert Stratton. They began to date and after a nice courtship they eloped to Las Vegas, Nevada. They were married by the nearest bishop on October 9, 1953. Together they had more children, a daughter, Jill and a son, Oliver Clay. Albert and Leila were inseparable. They worked hard to mold a “yours, mine and ours family” into one. They filled our home with lots of love, laughter and happiness. They were blessed to be together for 58 years. Albert passed away December 25, 2011, at the age of 98. With a promise to Leila that he would be waiting for her at the gate!

StrattonLeila Program Cover 1Leila’s greatest joy was serving her family and spending time with them. She delighted in cooking, elaborate celebrations and feast for the holidays with her family. She loved camping, fishing and canning with Albert and other family members. She is the heart of our family and we will miss her deeply.

Leila is survived by her four children: Steven Albert (Jody) Stratton of Hurricane, Utah, Milton Otto (Robyn) Mayhew of St. George, Utah, Jill Tobler of Santa Clara, Utah, Oliver Clay (Kate) Stratton of St. George, Utah; one brother–in-law, Lloyd Stratton of Logandale, Nevada; 14 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings; Iris Starr, Elna Gentry and Jay Huntsman.

The family would like to deeply thank all of the loving and caring people who helped care for Leila and allowing her to stay and pass on with dignity in her own home. There are way too many of you to name but you know who you are and we could not have done it without all of you and the loving, compassionate and dedicated services rendered to her. Thank you so much, we love each and every one of you.

MojicaIluminada(December 6, 1933 – July 25, 2015)

Our beloved mother, Iluminada de Rivera Mojica, peacefully passed away in her sleep on July 25, 2015, at the age of 81. She was born December 6, 1933.

Mom was a pinnacle of faith and a testament to perseverance. Despite being advised that she had only months to live due to metastatic breast cancer in 2010, she knew that the God she adored had further purpose for her life. Words of the Lord were never far from her lips as she doted on her grandchildren. She now resides cancer-free in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Mom was a caretaker from childhood, and did not feel comfortable unless she was tending to the needs of others. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, she traveled to the United States to live in the states of New York, New Jersey, Illinois, and Utah.

First and foremost, mom was correctly perceived to be the matriarch of the family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ignacio and Agustina Rivera; and siblings: Enrique, David, Josefina, and Luisa. She leaves behind five children: Luis C. Mojica, Evelyn (James) McAdam, Eileen Mojica, Brenda (William) Frazier and Dan Mojica. Additionally, she leaves behind eight cherished grandchildren: Joshua G. Grenville, James J. McAdam, Melissa V. McAdam, Daniel L. Mojica, Timothy E. Frazier, Riley M. Frazier, Iluminada Mojica, and Cristián Mojica. Further, she leaves countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends in the continental United States and Puerto Rico.

Her family wishes to express profound gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from friends and family.
