Oct. 13, 1935 — Dec. 16, 2017

Barbara Sullivan Wells, 82, passed away on Dec. 16, 2017.

Born in Salt Lake City to James and Belva Sullivan on Oct. 13, 1935, she married Sid Wells in 1960, and together they had four children. After retiring, they moved to Mesquite, Nevada.

Barb was a wonderful teacher to fifth and sixth graders for 35 years. She loved to travel. She especially loved to escape with Sid to their property in Duchesne. An avid sports fan and longtime member of the Crimson Club, Barb rarely missed a Utes game. She and Sid enjoyed watching their favorite sports teams play.

Barb loved people. She loved to be in the company of her family and friends. Her calendar was sure to include playing bridge with her card group, lunch with a friend or heading for Utah to visit family. She loved the outdoors. Sunsets, beautiful scenery and the changing of Utah seasons always put a smile on her face.

Barbara was a strong, selfless woman with a heart of gold. Her cup was always half-full. She knew how to create her own happiness and take the positive with her wherever she went.

Adored by seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, she is survived by her husband; four children: Mike, Dan, John and Lori; sister-in-law Jean; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Sharon and grandson Marshall.

She leaves behind a great legacy filled with countless memories we will cherish forever. We love and miss you dearly. May you fly free with our angels and always live on in our hearts.

Jan. 14, 1924 — Dec. 18, 2017

Austin Victor (Pete) Iverson, 93, passed away Dec. 18, 2017, in St. George, Utah. He was born Jan. 14, 1924, in St. George to Victor E. and Erma Reber Iverson.

He married Lorna Hall on Nov. 18, 1943, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary last month. They were sealed in the St. George Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Dec. 11, 1946, by Austin’s grandfather Ernest Reber.

He grew up and lived his entire life in Washington, Utah, and always talked about the blessings of growing up there with wonderful family and special friends. He also spent some time in New Harmony and Santa Clara.

He graduated from Dixie High School in St. George. Shortly after graduating from high school, he and two friends went to the shipyards in Oakland, California, to learn the welding trade. After receiving his welding certificate at the shipyards in Oakland, he returned to Washington and enlisted in the Navy. The day after he and Lorna were married, he left for active duty and spent the next two years in Honolulu, Hawaii.

After the war was over, he attended Dixie College where he received an associate degree. At the time, Lorna was working for Herman Larkin in the office at Larkin Plumbing and Heating. Herman needed a welder and hired Austin and that started his career in the sheet metal trade. He also worked with Ralph Mitchell and later worked for Lee Hirschi at Ace Plumbing. At Ace Plumbing he worked with Grey Larkin, who later purchased the business. He worked for Grey and Dale Larkin from 1966 until his retirement.

Austin was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served faithfully in many callings. He served in the Washington Ward Bishopric, High Priest group leadership and as a superintendent of the Sunday School. Two of his favorite callings were Sunday school teacher and Stake Orchard Specialist.

Austin and Lorna were inseparable and enjoyed being together in all that they did. Some of his hobbies included hunting, fishing, growing vegetables, rock hunting and lapidary. There are quite a few people who were recipients of a cut and polished geode, petrified wood or a beautiful piece of handmade jewelry. He loved to share homegrown fruits and vegetables with many.

He is survived by his wife, Lorna, of Washington; daughters, Shana (Kelly) Paxman and Vicki Adams of Washington; grandchildren, Randy Clare Paxman, Patricia Fife and Jeff Adams; five great-grandchildren, Gabe Lefkovitz, Laikyn Paxman, Landry Paxman, Berlyn Sofi Fife and Cruz Fife. He is also survived by his sister, Maxine Tanner; and sister-in-law, Sherrie Iverson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor E. and Erma Reber Iverson; brother Mervyn Iverson; and brother-in-law, Clare Tanner.

The family would like to thank all of the caretakers at Red Cliffs Care Center for all the love, kindness and help they have shown to both Austin and Lorna. The family would also like to thank Zion’s Way Home Health and Hospice for their compassion, care and kindness to Austin and his family.

Austin lived a life of service to others and will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Ryan Alexander Corey

August 1992 — Dec. 6, 2017

Ryan Alexander Corey, 25, of St. George, Utah, returned to God, Dec. 6, 2017. He was born August 1992 in Henderson, Nevada, the son of Ron and Dee Corey.

Although a less than average life span, Ryan did not live an average life. He lived a hundred lifetimes in the 25 calendar years we had with him. Ryan would agree the best views come after the hardest climb.

As much as people knew hanging out with him would likely end up in a trip to the hospital or a hangover. He was the type of man people loved to be around, with his contagious smile and magnetic presence. Ryan’s friendship was one to be treasured. He was a small stone who made colossal waves.

Ryan was as wild as the outdoors he loved so much. Some of his favorite hobbies included camping, hiking and longboarding with friends. His dog Louie’s favorite activity was chasing Ryan and Kenzie while they rode dirt bikes. Music played a very important and influential part in his life, whether it was listening to classic rock while driving or playing in the garage band with his brother. Music went with every activity.

Ryan deeply loved his girlfriend, Kenzie. They were able to share a loving six-and-a-half years together. He was her protector and biggest comfort. The love they shared and memories they created exceeded most. We know Ryan will watch over her as she moves forward in life.

Ryan was a rare combination of someone who had a love for life and a firm understanding of what was important. He was a free spirit like his father and had a heart of gold like his mother. Family was everything to him. He showed his unconditional love for them always. Whether it be buying them gifts on Amazon Prime or laughing and talking on a simple phone call. Ryan was able to take one last Harley ride with his brother to visit their parents in Arizona last fall. The bond between them far surpasses death.

We are all given the gift of life but at some point, must give it back. Although Ryan’s time was too short and the void in our lives will be forever present, the memories we made and the times we had will resonate and inspire to capture life as he did. He realized that time is short for those who wait. “We only regret the ride we didn’t take.”

Kolei Soseti Maile

Sept. 11, 1971 — Dec. 25, 2017

Nisi, Brooks, Tori, Dylan and Drake Maile were lucky enough to have the very best father and husband imaginable.

Kolei was a dad to his four babies above anything else; they were his life’s purpose, along with the love of his life, Nisi. Kolei was a loving brother to his baby sister, Temutisa May Maile, and the oldest son to his beloved parents, Soseti Semisi Maile and Fakalelu Kihemanatu Po’uha. Although there were only two children in their family, they felt that they had so many siblings with the company of their cousins. Kolei and Tisa had a tight-knit bond and were so happy being together, just talking surrounded by their children.

He loved being close in the lives of his nephews, Elder Samuela M. Tupola (Cape Coast, Ghana, mission) and  Elder Soseti Kolei Tupola (Nukualofa, Tonga, mission). They both remember him saying “work hard and see the people every day.”

Kolei Soseti Maile made the world a better place on Sept. 11, 1971. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and spent his adolescence in his favorite place, Rose Park. He was a proud West High Panther (Class of 1989), playing football with his brothers and was recognized with many awards. He loved reminiscing on his high school days and had countless friends that he still kept in touch with.

After high school, Kolei served in the Micronesia, Guam, mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but spent most of his days in Chuuk. He was a beacon of light to the Chuukese people, spreading above all, his love.

Upon returning from his mission, Kolei played football at Dixie College, where he met his dream girl, Nisi Pikula. They were married shortly after on Dec. 13, 1996, in the St. George Temple. Five years later, they welcomed their first son, Brooks Kolei Maile, and a year and a half later, Tori Fakalelu Maile.

He spent so much one-on-one time shooting hoops with her, late night runs to Target and giving life advice. He spoiled his baby Tori and will miss her like no other. He loved just being around her. They loved their life together as a family of four for six years until Kolei’s sweetie, Dylan Tisa Maile, was born and stole another big piece of his heart. They had an inseparable bond and she would sing to him every day. He was her everything and she will miss his big bear hugs the most.

The caboose of their family, Drake Kolei Maile, was born a couple years later. Drakey Poo loved when Pops would pick him up from school, play Minions with him and wrestle. Kolei loved his mini-me Drakey. They were the most ideal family, spending their days together, hanging out at home, attending Buku’s and Tori’s basketball, football and rugby games, playing at the park or just enjoying each other’s company.

Kolei loved his job with the state, impacting countless lives with his unconditional love. His most recent position was with Team R.A.W. where he was able to work with teens on a more personal level. He had such a special place in his heart for every kid he influenced, along with bros Josh and Bear. He received countless awards and recognition for his service to his team.

Kolei, aka DJ Koots, had a deep love for music and started his music career early on in high school. He and his posse could always be found in his parents’ basement with their milk crates full of vinyl records.  He spent many years working as a DJ and recently taught his own kids how to spin.

Kolei loved being a barber to anybody who wanted to take a seat in his chair. He also loved being a graffiti artist. He adored spending endless hours coaching his son Brooks in football and loved spending time with “Circle Black.” If he wasn’t at home with his own family, he was with hanging out with his second family – the Pine View High School coaches and players. This past summer, he got to witness Brooks accepting a full-ride football scholarship to Brigham Young University and was so proud of that. He was an outstanding coach who will be forever missed on the field.

Kolei was instantly adored by his in-laws from the moment he met them. He filled a huge hole in their lives and took on the role of brother, father and mentor. The Pikula Angels and Kolei had an incredibly special bond and were so lucky to grow up with him. Before he left this earth, he was surrounded by his wife, four babies and sister, saying “goodbye just for now to Pops.” He was reunited with his beautiful parents and back into the savior’s loving arms on Dec. 25, 2017. Tong Ennet. ‘Ofa Ta’engata.

April 28, 1941 — Dec. 22, 2017

Delores Jean Mickley (Friedman), age 76, passed away peacefully in her home away from home in St. George, Utah, on Friday evening Dec. 22, 2017.

Dee was born in Akron, Ohio, on April 28, 1941, to Nickolas John Friedman and Anna Marie Friedman (Metz). She was the youngest of six children, where her oldest siblings, Esther, Ruth and Elsie, were born 16 to 22 years prior, and were already married or out of the house not long after Dee’s birth. She actually attended school with some of her nieces/nephews who called out “Hi Auntie” as they passed her in the hallways. She grew up with Nick and Tom, her two older brothers in the small city of Uniontown, Ohio, and graduated from Lake High School in 1959.

When Dee married Charles (Lon) Mickley in 1962, a whole new world opened up to her to include moving from base to base as the wife of an Air Force Officer. Between 1963 and 1969, Dee and Lon had four children born in three different states before they settled back in the Canton area. In 1982, Lon and Dee parted ways and Dee went on to become a personal lines supervisor with Leonard Insurance Services.

Dee loved to read, play cards, entertain friends and spend time with family. After retiring in 1997, she became acquainted with dear friends affectionately known as the Golden Girls. They loved playing cards, going to concerts in the park, taking vacations and keeping each other current about the lives of their children and grandchildren.

Her friends and family describe her as a beloved grandmother, aunt, sister-in-law and caring friend, with a gentle soul and a tender heart. In time, Dee moved to Utah to be closer to some of her children and grandchildren, allowing her to spend additional quality time with those family members.

Dee was predeceased by parents Nickolas and Marie Friedman; sisters Esther (Kermit) Atkinson, Ruth (Harry) Stone, and Elsie (Tim) Oliver.

Dee is survived by her brothers Nicholas (Eileen) Friedman of Barberton, Ohio, and Thomas (Carol) Friedman of Uniontown; daughters Debbie (Chris) Bosley of Charleston, South Carolina, and Kim (Paul) Picinich of St. George; sons William (Andrea) Mickley of Farmington, Utah, and Michael (Tiffany) Mickley of St. George; grandchildren Whitney, Savanna, Samantha, Nicholas, Tyler, Ashla, Kayden, Jared, Cheyenne, Trenton and two great-grandchildren, Violet and Zoii. Debra Lee Loveridge Logan passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Dec. 28, 2017.

She was born April 2, 1958, in Moab to William B. and Barbara L. Kerby Loveridge. She attended Bingham High School in South Jordan and later attended Salt Lake Community College.

Debra worked in the medical billing field for over 30 years for Blue Cross Blue Shield and Intermountain Healthcare.

She married her eternal sweetheart, James Logan, on Oct. 17, 1980. Their marriage was later solemnized Sept. 29, 2001, in the St. George Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for time and all eternity.

Debra was a woman with an enormous talent to create things of beauty. She loved creating and making crafts like toll painting, making plant gardens, arranging flowers, collecting antiques, collecting dolls and sewing. As a family we are guaranteed to have something in our homes that was made or giving to us by Debra and will be treasured forever.

She loved her grandchildren “to the moon and back” and loved spending time with her family; her children and grandchildren. She especially loved cheering, watching and traveling to her grandson Jordan’s basketball games while he attended high school, college and now professionally. Debra’s ability to love unconditionally was a hallmark of her life of service to family, extended family and anyone in need.

Struggling health often hindered her ability to do all she desired, but never diminished her ability to love others. May her amazing spirit be forever remembered in the hearts and minds of all those she loved. We will love and miss her until our “forever comes!”

June 21, 1927 — Dec. 27, 2017

On Dec. 27, 2017, Darlene Lucille Nott Moffitt suddenly left us to go be with her precious Clair. We were blessed to spend one last Christmas with her before her health took a sudden decline.

Darlene was born June 21, 1927, to Donald Marsden Nott and Myrtle Esther Densley in Salt Lake City, Utah. When she was 17, she married Blaine Elwood Nelson Sr. and to this union they had one son Blaine Elwood Nelson Jr. They were later divorced. She married Clair Easton Moffitt and they had three sons, David Clair, Steven Keith and Robert Donald Moffitt. Clair and Darlene were married for 54 years before he passed in 2003.

A highlight in Darlene’s life was the time she worked as a switchboard operator at the Utah State Capitol handling thousands of calls the old-fashioned way. She later was promoted to working as a secretary for the Utah State Treasurer. She always talked fondly about these times.

She also loved her grandchildren and loved to play games with them when they were little. She loved to crochet and made beautiful things.

One of Darlene’s favorite things to do was to go on the yearly family vacation to Mexico. She was a trooper on these trips with extra energy and was not going to be left out of any activity. Our family has very fond memories of these trips.

At the time of Steven’s passing, Darlene became a resident at the Retreat at SunRiver. She was a sweet person with a sense of humor, but also a little bit devious and strong willed, as the staff at the Retreat can attest to.

The family wished to extend their gratitude for the gentle care by the staff at the Retreat and their genuine concern over her health during her stay and at the extra care that was shown when she passed. We also thank Applegate Hospice staff for their loving care.

Darlene lived a long full life to the age of 90 and we know that she is happy to be reunited with the family that has passed before her. She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband Clair, sons Robert and Steven. She is survived by Blaine and Chris Nelson, David and Bonnie Moffitt, grandchildren Mark, Jill, Trish, Josh, Brooke, Christopher, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
