1418165_799326970082807_241603932_n (1)(January 29, 1944 – January 4, 2014)

On Saturday, January 4, 2014, Richard William Grimshaw passed away just a few weeks shy of his 70th birthday. Richard demonstrated courage and perseverance throughout his life, and he faced significant health challenges with patience and faith. Richard survived a life-threatening brain tumor at age 19, and dealt with epilepsy his entire adult life.  Even after suffering a traumatic brain injury in June of 2013, he continued to bless many lives with his example of persistence and his calm and positive demeanor.  He was surrounded in his last hours by loving family and friends who said goodbye with words, prayers, and music.

Richard hailed from Enoch, Utah, the son of George D Grimshaw, who taught him how to work hard, think carefully, and fix practically anything; and Elizabeth Smith Grimshaw, from whom he inherited his quiet wisdom and boundless charity. He was industrious, adventurous, and creative. As a young man he enjoyed fixing cars, drag racing, and hunting with his dad and brothers, and later developed a love for literature and a talent for watercolor painting. He was a student (and probably the skinniest football player) in the Cedar High School Class of 1962, served an LDS mission in Southern California, and completed his degree in elementary education at CSU (now SUU), later earning a Masters degree from Utah State University. He loved teaching, and taught third grade for 28 years–two in Enterprise and the remainder at East Elementary in St. George. He spent his retirement in continual service to others, including countless hours as an ordinance worker in the St. George LDS Temple and at the computer doing genealogical research.

Richard married his longtime sweetheart, Charlotte Carter, in 1967. Their relationship was the epitome of love and unfailing devotion. They eventually established their home in Washington, Utah. They raised five children, with whom he read poetry, co-authored picture books, coached little league teams, went home-teaching, hauled musical equipment for concerts, troubleshot cars, discussed theology, and completed outlandishly elaborate school projects. In later years he loved visiting his children and grandchildren in Utah County, Pennsylvania, and California, and preparing the house for their visits.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert and Kent, father-in-law S Neal Carter, brother-in-law Michael Carter, and sister-in-law Deedy Grimshaw. He is survived by his wife of 47 years; his children, Jeff (Tanya), Greg (Elizabeth), Jeremy (Kristen), Michelle Robinson (Greg), Kristen VanOrman (Jonny), and nine grandchildren: Tate, Owen, Anna, Meg, Grady, William, Noah, Roscoe, and Milo; sisters Clara Mae Hatch (Oleen) and DeAnne Stubbs (Clarence); brothers Steven (Carla), Arlen (Cathy), Dave (Colleen), and Alan; his mother-in-law, Rea Carter; sister-in-law Linda Carter; brothers-in-law Boyd Carter (Suzy) and J.R. Carter (Denise); and a wide circle of beloved friends and relatives.

Funeral Services

  • Funeral services will take place on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 11 a.m. at the Washington 1st Ward LDS Chapel, 82 N. Main St., Washington.
  • Viewings will be held at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George on Friday, Jan. 10, from 6-8 p.m., and at the chapel in Washington on Saturday from 9-10:30 a.m., prior to the service.
  • Burial will be in the Cedar City cemetery.

The family would like to publicly thank the CNAs, nurses, and therapists at Red Cliffs Health and Rehabilitation for their kind care during the past 5 months. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Michael K. Carter Memorial Scholarship Fund at SUU, or the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund. 1014019_801874203161417_906831580_n(June 15, 1930 – January 10, 2014)

Gordon Neil Worthington beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and associate, passed away at his home in Washington, Utah on January 10, 2014.  He was born in Nephi, Utah on June 15, 1930, the son of Murren and Geneva Reese Worthington.  He was the fourth of five children. He spent his childhood in Nephi, Utah, and attended Juab High School where he participated and excelled in basketball. During his early and teenage years he learned the value of work and always preformed various jobs to help his family and himself.  Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the National Guard and was eventually called into active military duty for his country in the Korean War.  After his honorable discharge from the military he began working as a diesel mechanic, eventually moving to St. George to work for Harry Lundin at Dixie Diesel.  He worked for approximately 40 years for Dixie Diesel and was known for his dependability and excellent workmanship and integrity.  Operators from across the country would bring their rigs to have Gordon work on them, because they knew they could rely on his work to be of the utmost quality.  Upon his retirement from Dixie Diesel, Gord, as he was affectionately called, worked for Reid Ashman for several years, and he and Evelyn owned and operated The Burger Place in Washington.

He married Evelyn Jolley of Washington, Utah on November 30, 1957 and their marriage was sealed in the St. George Temple. Gordon and Evelyn raised their family in Washington with an understanding of and appreciation for their pioneer heritage and strong family values.  Gordon was a charter member of the Washington Lions Club and remained a member for 45 years.  He was actively involved in civic affairs, cooked corn dogs and fries for many 4th of July celebrations, and helped prepare for many morning Easter egg hunts which have become a tradition in Washington.  He was always willing to help and no task was too big or too small for him.

Gordon loved his Savior Jesus Christ and demonstrated that love by his service to others.  He served faithfully in many church assignments, including high councilman, high priest group leader, counselor in the bishopric, faithful home teacher, and as a ward executive secretary for 16 years.  He and Evelyn also served as missionaries at the Employment Resource Center for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  His greatest service, however, was to his family, where he was always ready to help and assist in any way needed.  Gordon and Evelyn could always be found at their children’s and grandchildren’s ball games and other activities. They have always been supportive of them. As soon as the weather warmed up you could find them out in the garden or yard.  Gordon and Evelyn were honored by Washington City as the Grand Marshals in the Cotton Days Parade for their lifetime of unselfish service to the community.  Gordon was a man of great integrity.  He was a quiet giant; he let his actions speak louder than his words.  He was a kind and loving man, and set a great example to all.  He will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Gordon is survived by his loving wife Evelyn; their five children, Bobbi (Bob) Platt, Diane (Jeff) Barlow, Jane Worthington, Mike (Jodi) Worthington, and David (Holly) Worthington.  He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, with three more on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother

The family would like to express a special thanks to Horizon Home Health and Hospice for the loving and professional care they gave to Gordon as his health declined.

Sheila Ilias Brown

Sheila Brown poses for a portrait at Be Hot Yoga on Friday, July 19, 2013.(September 25, 1974 – January 18, 2014)

Sheila Ilias Brown was the Magnum Opus, the Master Piece of our Eternal Father. To me, she is most the beautiful Being whose feet have touched this earth. Being with her was an Eternity. Her love could never be measured in time, it was the love of God emanating through her soul. She will always and in all ways be my Bride. She made me the man I am today. I will always remain her humble loving husband.

Sheila pronounced (Shy-la) was born in Northeast India, now Bangladesh near the Himalayas. Sheila was born with an extra measure of strength and will. The week she was born she had a fever so severe that every doctor in the hospital told her mother there was no hope for her survival. Her mother took her home and miraculously, within days, her temperature came down. When she was five, her family moved from India to Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Sheila’s younger sister told me in Elementary school they called her “The Boss,” not because she would bully any of the other kids, but because if the school bullies wanted to “pick-on” her little sister or any other kid, they would have to go through Sheila first. Needless to say, the age of “School Bullying,” ended. This is who Sheila was in life.

She cared little for precedent and only for what was just and true in her heart. Sheila was the Valedictorian of her High School class. She won many awards for literature, created a Fashion clothing line, and had several Art Galleries in her name…all this while in High School. During this time, Sheila also taught yoga and dance as a Master in Odissi (Indian Temple Dance). In a family of Magistrates, royals, doctors, engineers, attorneys, Sheila’s mom, Bakura, said to me, “Sheila is the most effective human being I have ever seen.” I whole heartedly agree. Because of her love for people, Sheila wanted to become a doctor, however, during an internship she discovered that she would have to choose a different path. Sheila attended the prestigious Johann Wolfgang von Goethe University. It was there she graduated from Law School in only four years. During her University studies, which often took 16 hours per day, Sheila helped mother write an Indian Cook book in German and taught Culinary classes twice per week. She worked as an Attorney and Business Development Manager for Innovative Software A.G. in Germany, United Kingdom and France. As an attorney she helped people protect develop their businesses intellectual properties. She is fluent in nine languages, including French, Italian, German, Sanskrit, Latin, Urdu Bengali, Hindi, and English.

Sheila and I met through the Las Vegas yoga community in December of 2009 and married on March 21, 2010. Yes, it was love at first sight.

Sheila loved elephants and all animals. She had a reverence for animals one would rarely find in the West. I remember her telling me stories of elephants and their care takers and their beauty and majestic nature. In the years I knew Sheila, she would never let me walk by someone in need, without providing help. And she would just give a few dollars, she would give the cash she had or her jacket or buy a meal. This is the heart of pure light she had for her fellow beings.

Sheila was the Matriarch for the yoga community in St. George Utah, founding Be Hot Yoga & Be University. She trained scores of yoga teachers that will continue her legacy. A piece of her is alive in all of us. The Earth mourning the great lost.

Sheila was the quintessential mother and never let any come before motherhood. She loved taking her hiking in Zion, teaching her about beauty fashion and style, teaching her language and taking her on adventures. One time I dressed Shiloh in mismatched pajamas and even though nobody else was going to see her, Sheila had me go back and search for coordinating top and bottoms. This is how she was, if she knew, that is all that mattered.

My heart is broken in two pieces and I have no idea how we will go from one day to the next. Our tears join the Great Deep, that abyss of pain and mourning for all those whom have past to unto the realm of Light. Sheila, Shiloh-Faith and I thank each of you for your love, prayers and support. Heaven is thundering with all of our love. “Dear Aba, give us this day our daily miracles and forgive us if we do not see them.”
May God bless you, Namaste, Jt Brown

Sheila Ilias Brown, resident of St. George Utah, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 6:35 a.m. She was born on September 25, 1974 to Mohamad and Bakura Ilias. Sheila married her devoted and loving husband Jt Brown on March 21, 2010 and together they created a family when their little girl Shiloh Faith was born July 17, 2011.

She is survived by Jt Brown of St. George, Utah; Shiloh Faith Brown of St. George, Utah;  sisters Sarah Ilias of Dhaka, Bangladesh and Shama Ilias Frankfurt, Germany;  brothers Mautasim Billah of Panchagahr, Bangladesh and Karim Yousuf of Las Vegas, Nevada.
